<img src=’http://whc.unesco.org/uploads/sites/site_747.jpg‘ target=’blank‘ align=’left‘ style=’padding:5px‘>Founded by the Portuguese in 1680 on the Río de la Plata, the city was of strategic importance in resisting the Spanish.
